Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to get a Private Pilot Certificate?
The national average ranges from $15,000 to $20,000 depending on how quickly you learn and how often you fly. I charge a flat hourly rate for my instruction, and the aircraft rental is handled separately through the flying club. Contact me to get a detailed breakdown of current rates!
How long does it take to finish the training?
The FAA requires a minimum of 40 flight hours, though the national average is closer to 60-70 hours. If you fly consistently (2-3 times per week) and study hard, you can expect to earn your certificate in about 4 to 6 months.
Do I need to own my own airplane?
Not at all. My students have access to well-maintained fleet aircraft through my local flying club affiliation. You simply pay an hourly rental rate for the plane during your lessons. If you do own an aircraft, I am also happy to provide instruction in it!
What happens during an Introductory Flight Lesson?
An introductory flight (often called a "Discovery Flight") is your very first loggable flight lesson. We start with a brief ground orientation, and then you will sit in the pilot's seat and actually fly the airplane under my guidance to see if aviation is the right fit for you.
